101st Airborne NCO Gives Vortex Raving Reviews

We received this email a while back and never posted it.  We redacted the name, but the comments make it very clear that the Vortex Flash Hider works.  It is also clear the troops need it and love it.  It just further shows that SEI's products are "Combat Proven", hence the slogan.

Here is the email below:

Mr. Smith,

Things are going well over here on the front. We have been using the Vortex flash hiders like crazy in the valleys and of course up in the mountains. Of course you know we have them on our M-4s, M-14s, M240s, M249s and our MK48s. They work like a dream, but hey I already knew that. That's why I would never think of using another flash hider. I gotta tell you, a lot of people are always asking what it is and after I tell them the great benefits of your vortex flash hiders and how to get them then I see them a couple of weeks later with one. I will continue to spread the word here. I think everyone can benefit from having one on any weapon they use here in combat. Hell even my Commander, First Sergeant and XO have one on their M-4s now and of course they love them too. Our higher ups are not fond of us making changes to our weapons in that fashion so we simply put our muzzle caps on over them and no one is any wiser. I'll keep trying to bring them around they just have to step out of that box they live in and see it will save our lives if the enemy can't find our positions when we are shooting at them at night up in the mountains. Which by the way has already happened several times and we were very successful. I think it scares the hell out of them when they have no idea where we are when we are shooting at them. I have as well been taking some pictures of our guys in action with the vortexs on and will send them to you soon. I didn't know if maybe you might want to put it on the web site or just see them being put to good use. I will enclose my address here in Afghanistan below if you get a new batch of the Vortex flash hiders I can use on my OPS inc sound suppressor. I just need one as I am the only one with the OPS inc can here. Hell that reminds me I have been telling people about your 5.56 and 7.62 cans as well. I never got to use one but I know they are quality items because you are making them. They really like the fact that they can take it apart to clean the inside themselves and that the 762 can will work on the 556  as well. I think my Commander called your military rep from here about a week ago to check on pricing and see how to order one from here. I will keep you posted. Thanks for everything Mr. Smith. I always really appreciate all of the support you have given to me and my unit for the second deployment with a second unit. If you ever need me to write up a letter for you to post or anything you need at all, all you have to do is ask and it would be my pleasure. Thanks again Mr. Smith.

SGT Gimmy Thanks SEI for Saving Lives

This is a wonderful email we just recieved.  We are honored and humbled by the dedication of our men and women in uniform and thank SGT Gimmy and his fellow Soldiers for all they do for our country.

Mr. Smith and employee's of Smith Inc.,

My name is Keith Gimmy, at the end of 2010 I contacted you about the purchase of 15 Vortex flash eliminators for my platoon as they prepared to go to Afghanistan. I did not make that deployment with them because I was honorably discharged as they left. Your generosity and patriotism led to an order of 84 flash eliminators for the men of Bravo Troop, 1-75 CAV, 2BCT, 101st ABN (AA). This Troop was made up of Cavalry Scouts, Medics, and Fire Support Team Members. Survival for men like these is dependent on stealth and subversion. The noise of a gunshot is loud and narrows the search pattern of the opposition as to where the shot came from. The hills and mountains of Afghanistan echos these shots, thus making the source of the shot difficult to locate. A muzzle flash does not echo, and gives away the shooter's position to the exact place. Their deployment sent these men to a southern portion of that country that had not seen US presence in significant force in a long while. Throughout the year they were there, they engaged in numerous firefights, encountered explosives and enemy threats, and suffered the expensive loss of three good men, Sergeant Justin Officer, Staff Sergeant David Weigle, and Corporal Loren Buffalo.

This last Sunday, I had a cookout with another close Army friend and his wife. During the course of this visit, conversation turned to those we remembered and those who gave all in the protection of American citizens and our way of life. I asked him how your flash eliminators worked for them, and saying he was extremely satisfied and grateful just doesn't do justice to the appreciation he had. He went onto say that your eliminators saved not only his life, but that of many scouts in the field. The only drawback he noticed was that the flash eliminator tended to collect more brush and foliage than the standard flash suppressors, but that was miniscule and a bit of muzzle control soon mitigated that issue. The ability to fire and bring almighty thunder upon the insurgents without giving away their positions kept my friend alive, and that of the men under his command. I cannot thank you enough for donating your product and aiding these men in their mission.

Throughout my search for equipment and weapon care products, led me to discover that the generosity you showed is unmatched by anyone else. No one had bulk rates, or donated any specialty items like your eliminator. You and your company are true Americans. I wish your company prosperous business for many, many years to come.

Thank you for your time,

Keith Gimmy

SEI Shot Thousands of Rounds Through Our Sound Suppressor on the MK48 and MK46 Machine Guns

Ron and Andy went out to a Naval Base in California with some Special Operations forces to try out our Wind Talker sound suppressor on the MK48 and MK46 machine guns.  We also put it on an M4 and shot 7 magazines through it on 3 round burst and full auto.  Most sound suppressor have back pressure issues because they are too small or the blow wide open because they are not rugged enough and cannot withstand the heat, but our suppressor held up even though we put thousands of rounds through them.

The SEI Wind Talker passed with all flying colors.  We had a Larson Davis sound meter there and were able to test the decibel reduction - and we can't publish how much, but it was significant!  Also, we were able to fire 120 rounds through the MK46 and MK48 on full auto with no issues to our Wind Talker sound suppressor.  Below are some pictures and videos.

See Our Precision Manufacturing Equipment Make Vortexes Our of Barstock

In this video you can see this machine cut away from barstock steel in order to form the grooves on the Vortex Flash Suppressor.  As you can see, this is no easy task and requires a great deal of precision.

MK46 Locking Collar (Patent Pending)

Below are some pictures that better explain our MK46 light machine gun locking collar.  In the pictures below it is a silver color.  However, our finished product is the same color as the Vortex.  The locking collar help stabilize the flash suppressor when a high rate of fire is used.  It adds support to the Vortex and is a very helpful addition to the SEI weapon-related patented arsenal.
